A no-frills cafe tucked away* in the heartlands,
eight years in the making.
*Tucked away in Potong Pasir within a small HDB apartment that boasts a humble NParks-maintained garden just below.
Jay has been drinking and making specialty coffee since 2018. Over the years he has tried just about every method of making coffee. He eventually found his preference in filtered coffee with its delicate tastes, and coffee brewed with a Moka-pot for its full-bodiedness without the need for expensive machines.
His thirties came upon him, and with it came the realisation that a full cuppa would leave him feeling jittery. A friend recommended him to try matcha and thus began his matcha chapter. Asides from the health benefits and caffeine nudge (as compared to a kick), he fell quickly for the way matcha carries flavour profiles with the same level of nuance he'd been chasing in coffee beans for years.
In 2026, between jobs and with time on his hands, a thought settled in: why not let others taste what he’d been making for himself, every morning, for the better part of a decade?
Blue Gate Coffee & Matcha was poured into being.
The idea's simple: Small menu, premium raw materials (coffee beans and matcha powder), traditional equipment, sold for a reasonable price without the cafe markup.
Get your orders, pick up your drink, then proceed to wander around the beautiful enclave that Potong Pasir is.
Slow morning, slower sip. Local legend has it a white-bellied sea eagle drops in the area from time to time. If you're patient enough to wait for it.
